Impact

Impact

The Baba Impact :--

Babas are quite popular in India. The current favourite is Baba Ramdev. He seems to be doing well.

Baba Ramdev of Patanjali Ayurved has won the IMPACT Person of the Year, 2017 Award, instituted by the exchange4media Group to recognize excellence in the Advertising, Media and Marketing domain. He wins the award for unprecedented disruption of the FMCG industry in India with the launch of Patanjali Ayurved that has captured the market, with the ‘swadeshi’ and the national interest at the top of its marketing pitch. With a turnover of Rs 10,561 crore in financial year 2017, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali has shaken up the hegemony of MNC players and is all set to achieve more growth and scale.

On winning the IPOY Award, Baba Ramdev said, “I am thankful to Annurag Batra and all the top industry leaders who chose me as IMPACT Person of the Year. It brings me immense joy because this gesture is like a vote of confidence from the biggest names in the Advertising, Marketing & Media industry.”

Commenting on IMPACT Person of the Year 2017, Annurag Batra, Chairman and editor-in-chief of the exchange4media Group, said, “Baba Ramdev has built an institution in Patanjali and his business expansion is as audacious as his yoga and his oratorial skills. The growth story of Baba Ramdev and Patanjali is remarkable, as it builds on the twin pillars of speed and scale. The unprecedented success of Baba Ramdev, growing in multitudes every day, is what makes him the winner of the IMPACT Person of the Year, 2017 award. I wish him more power.”

The other nominees for the award this year were Anand Kripalu, CEO & MD, Diageo India who has led Diageo through turbulent times, taking in his stride the highway liquor ban and the controversy around Vijay Mallya; Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, who is single-handedly executing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building Brand India; Ashish Bhasin, Chairman & CEO, South Asia, Dentsu Aegis Network who has built DAN into an impressive conglomerate through the right acquisitions; Bhavish Aggarwal, ‎Co-Founder & CEO, Ola who has taken on Über in India and made his mark in the face of stiff competition; Prasoon Joshi, CEO, India and Chairman (Asia Pacific), McCann Worldgroup, a multi-faceted leader who has made great contributions in advertising, films, music and public policy; Sanjiv Mehta, CEO and Managing Director, HUL, who has done well in spite of the Patanjali onslaught and has led and grown a very, very, large business; and Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and MD, Nestle India Ltd, who has effected an epic turnaround, bringing back stability to Nestle India.

A decade ago, not many had heard about him, today he and his confidant Acharya Balkrishna are running one of the fastest growing FMCG companies in India. In the last financial year Patanjali’s sales touched INR 11,561 crore. This year, they are aiming to touch INR 30,000 crore.  Would this have happened if he hadn’t consciously built his personal brand? Probably not.

Baba Ramdev transformed himself from a yoga guru to a business guru and simultaneously built a personal brand for himself. The Baba Ramdev brand represents India, health, and raw human nature. Watch him. He is at times passionate, at times friendly, at times aggressive. Whatever mood he’s in, he is communicative. He engages with his audience, laughs at himself. He errs publicly – this is perhaps what has kept his followers intact. They know he can fail from time-to-time. This is his brand – he is a person just like his followers. It is probably one of the main reasons for his phenomenal success.

So even when the sailing hasn’t been smooth for him, he has managed to overcome his dissidents and remain on top by continuously touching upon the core belief of his followers – healthy, swadeshi, and human. The Baba Ramdev impact is real- never before have ayurved products been so much in the news or in vogue.

It is one thing to see an advertisement of a movie in posters and random newspapers and magazines, and a whole other to see one in the trade magazines pertinent to the cinema industry. I immediately asked my friend who this was and then I heard a little bit about this fellow.

I must say the ad. looked ridiculous, and I was by no means going to watch that movie based on that, but that means nothing.

I didn’t think about it much, until he showed up in the news for all the wrong reasons. It is only now that I know what a power centre he had established, and how far the rot had grown that he was a driver of.

If only to rid us of crappy movies, I am happy to see him in jail, but to rid the world of evil, I’d like to see people like him in much darker places.

The stories of many a spiritual Guru in India would make for cracking comedy if it weren’t for the Tragedy of real

masses of converts being swindled in broad daylight, mostly of their own Volition.
The Stringent caste based society, the Multicultural diversity, the cynical attitude towards real problems of our

society and the inherent mental Handicap to accept the reality of life is what gives these Baba's an upper hand

to swindle the masses time and again. This will continue to happen even in future.
These Baba's are no different than Politicians, only the approach is different.
Its time to Educate ourselves on emotional Intelligence, learn some good things from other Cultures, evolve our mindset while its still not too late and stop believing in Miracles.

Indian Mythology, as well as history, list numerous instances where noble souls have guided people on the path

of Righteousness. Saints such as Kabir, Guru Nanak and others gave a meaning to the Lives of people through

their Teachings. They alleviated the sufferings of people and worked for the betterment of society.
Today, numerous Godmen can be found across the length and breadth of India. But just a few of them have Any

desire to serve Humanity. These godmen live in swanky Ashrams, are surrounded by burly Bodyguards, have

powerful political connections and millions of followers who pay thousands of rupees just to hear their Godmen

speak at Satsangs or Congregations.
A few years ago, vinod joshi, the Secretary of the trust that manages a small Temple and Ashram nestled in a

picture-postcard Valley called Kainchi near Nainital, got a call from Larry Brilliant, an American Physician and

former director of Google's Philanthropic Arm Google.org. "Larry said some Mark would be coming to the Ashram

for a day," recalls the short, bubbly man with Twinkling eyes, who has spent his life in the service of his

Spiritual guru Neeb Karori Baba at the Ashram.Joshi doesn't remember exactly when because he had no idea

Who Mark Zuckerberg was.
Facebook was yet to become a Daily Habit of about a Billion and half people. But he does Remember that

Zuckerberg flew down to Pantnagar, about 65 km from Nainital, and then drove to the Ashram of Neeb Karori

(often called Neem Karoli) Baba, who died in 1973 but Continues to Enchant several High-profile Americans.
The Baba's halo shined bright last week when Zuckerberg mentioned to Narendra Modi during the Indian PM's

US tour that he had Visited a Temple in India during the early days of Facebook on the advice of Apple founder

Steve Jobs.
"Steve Jobs told me that in order to reconnect with what I believed as the mission of the Company I should visit

this Temple that he had gone to India early on in his evolution of Thinking about what he wanted Apple and his

Vision of the future to be," Zuckerberg told Modi at a town hall meeting at Facebook headquarters.
"So I went and I travelled for almost a month, and seeing people, seeing how people Connected, and having the

Opportunity to feel how much better the world could be if everyone has a strong Ability to connect Reinforced for

me the importance of what we were doing and that is something I've always remembered over the last 10 years

as we've built facebook."
Zuckerberg spent almost 2 days..
Joshi says Zuckerberg landed up with just a book in his hand without even a change of Clothes. "He was

Wearing a Trouser which was torn at one knee," he told ET. Zuckerberg was supposed to spend only one day,

but stayed for two because Pantnagar was hit by a Storm and Flights could not take off.
The Ashram, located beside a bubbling brook and surrounded by tall pine-forested Mountains, itself is small for

a saint who has an Elite following that includes Hollywood star Julia Roberts. It has 5 shrines, including one for

his favourite Hanuman. Many of the Baba's Devotees believe he himself was the monkey God incarnate.

Opposite the shrines is a white building with square columns where the Sage used to live. "We call it the White

House," Joshi says.
On its verandah, there is a small wooden Platform covered with a dark woolen Blanket sprinkled with fresh

flowers — the Baba used to Spend most of his day seated on it. All over the place there are pictures of the ever-

Smiling Baba sitting or half lying down with his left palm supporting his Head. He is always wearing a Blanket.
Even in the shrine where the Baba lives on in a life-size Marble statue, he wears a Burberry-check blanket. As

the evening aarti (lamp service) winds down at the shrine, I tell Rameshwar Dass standing at the back of a small

crowd of Worshippers that the statue is life-like. "Well, almost," Dass replies with a mischievous smile, his eyes

crinkling up crows' feet on the Edges. "He looked quite Different."
Dass, a former New York-based Photographer, was Jim until the sage gave him his new name. When Jim first

met Neeb Karori Baba in 1970, he stayed by his side for two years.
Baba Spoke about Christ
"The Atmosphere around him was very Powerful." Dass says. I ask him what is it that attracts foreigners to the

sage. Dass Thinks for a moment and then says, "He talked to us a lot about Christ. He used to say that Christ

and Hanuman are the same. That Christ never died." He says when the Baba talked about Christ it was as if he

was seeing him. "Tears used to flow from his eyes." Dass says the Baba never gave sermons or Scriptural lessons

except urging them to be of service to others. "The Idea of service appeals to Christians like us."
He remembers Ram Dass, one of the Baba's earliest disciples, joking with him about a giant statue of Hanuman

at another Ashram of the Baba in Nainital. "Ram Dass said, 'What would my friends in the US say if they saw

me worshipping a giant concrete monkey'," Dass says with a hearty laugh. It was Ram Dass or Richard Alpert

who made Neeb Karori Baba famous among elite Americans.
Alpert, an American psychologist, met the Baba with fellow psychologist and psychedelics researcher Timothy

Leary while on vacation from Harvard. He spent many years with the Sage and wrote an unusually designed

book 'Be Here Now' on him and Hindu philosophy. The book, written like a Graphic novel, influenced many

readers in the US who began to associate with a commune and Foundation Alpert had established in New

Mexico.
Alpert, Jim and Larry Brilliant's Evangelism continues to draw followers to the Baba. As I take Joshi's Leave, he

shows me an Email from Brilliant about Steve Jobs. Brilliant, who is also a Science adviser to Warner Bros. and

president of Skoll Global Threats Fund established by eBay founder Jeff Skoll, mentions that Jobs had kept

Pictures of the saint by his bedside till his last. "I met Steve when we were all Young and the world was full of

promise and so, of course, We went to India as spiritual seekers," he writes in the email. "Girija [Brilliant's wife]

gave him our only Blanket from Maharaj ji when Steve was very ill." Though Neeb Karori Baba is no more, he

Evidently continues to be a comforter to many.

But Underneath all this talk of Spirituality lies a sinister world where Murky dealings, rapes, land grabbing,

Murders and other such Nefarious activities reign supreme. Nevertheless for their blind followers, these Godmen

are saintly figures who can do no wrong. A case in point is Ram Rahim who has been convicted for rape cases.

Just as the Verdict came out his followers went on a Rampage in Haryana and some parts of Delhi setting fire to

whatever came their way. Here we present five controversial Godmen who have indulged in unlawful activities

and still have a huge Blind following.

An Arya Samaj scholar and Social activist, Swami Agnivesh is a former member of legislative assembly from Haryana. In 2011, Agnivesh spent three days inside the Bigg Boss house as a guest, to "use this opportunity to promote and create awareness on social issues including corruption".

Agnivesh joined ‘Team Anna Hazare’ in the anti-corruption protests in August 2011. However, he broke away from the main group claiming that other protesters humiliated and conspired against him.

Property

Property of Baba's :--

Looking for meaning and purpose, people fall prey to the tricks-of-trade employed by wily Godmen and Godwomen !

Each time a fake Godman stands exposed, one is left wondering at the blind faith of followers who failed to look beyond the mask of someone who was a conman at best, and a crook, murderer and rapist at worst!

What attracts people to these peddlers of faith? Why the desperate need to believe that anyone has a quicker channel to God than you do? Those frantically looking for a peg to hang their faith on, are actually more the victims of their own need than of the wiles of conmen. If you have a strong belief in your own self and faith in your thoughts, values and actions, you become impervious to the perceived power of another.
